To reconstruct and review scientific thoughts, intellectual achievements and the outstanding industrial knowledge of the ancient Tamil for the use of the contemporary society.
To study the grammatical and linguistic theories of Tamil language; to study the structure and potentiality of Tamil language; to create the modern methods of language teaching.
To facilitate research on cultural impacts and translate the rare books of Tamil into other languages and vice versa. To preserve and publish Tamil inscriptions, paper manuscripts and books.

The Department of Tamil deductively commits to achieve excellence in all the department activities and to enhance the state – of-the-art equipment to provide our students and intellectually an inspiring environment of learning, innovation and inculcate to be one with the ethical and moral values.
We not only focus on existence but on the excellence in all fields of knowledge for the benefit of the society and we are imparting higher level learning and teaching on the Dravidian languages – Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and Urdu by extending them to possible heights.
